The ‘patients’ of the Tartu Animal Shelter include mostly cats and dogs, with a scattering of other pets. Some 700-800 animals become unwanted in our region in each year, and they are looking for a new home.

As pet treatment and pet birth control does not receive any public support, your donation is essential to help us reduce this number. We use the donations from this platform to prevent the birth of unwanted animals through spaying/neutering.

All adult cats that are given to a new home from the Tartu Animal Shelter are spayed/neutered, and all female dogs are spayed. This speeds up the process of finding new homes by providing animal adopters with added security – no need to worry about potential unwanted litters. Naturally, all animals obtained from our shelter have undergone parasite control treatments and age-appropriate vaccinations; they are micro-chipped and can be entered in the pet register by the shelter on behalf of the new owner. The cost of those procedures is covered by the new owner and is included in the adoption fee.

The organisation is included on the list of income tax incentive non-profit organizations.

The Tartu Animal Shelter is managed by the NGO Assisi Franciscuse Selts since 2006. The service area of the shelter includes the city and county of Tartu, as well as some nearby counties. The annual ‘turnover’ is up to 1,400 animals.
