Tallinn Children’s Hospital Foundation “Support the health programme of overweight children”
How does your donation help?
Being overweight increases the risk of many diseases, incl. heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnoea and orthopedic conditions. Excessive weight also brings along a slew of psychological problems: studies have shown that being overweight can impact the mental health of nearly half of overweight children; this impact can be expressed in the form of depression, low self-esteem, bullying at school, negative body image and social isolation.
During the past 3 years, the Tallinn Children’s Hospital Foundation has, with the help of the overweight children’s foundation, organised physical activities (gym, swimming, gymnastics) for overweight kids with the guidance of a physiotherapist; this includes initial inspection/testing, nutrition counselling, weighing and measuring, excising at home and keeping an online journal. About 70% of participants achieved positive results, i.e. lost weight or prevented weight gain.
The free workouts are organised at the Tallinn Children’s Hospital once a week for 2 hours at a time (on Tuesdays or Thursdays). Our project places special emphasis on the fact that overweight children should be able to exercise with other overweight kids. Once their weight has reached normal levels, children can move onto regular sport clubs.
The organization is included on the list of income tax incentive non-profit organizations and the donors will get back the income tax paid from their donation and the donations made by companies are tax-free (Estonian Income Tax Act § 49). Read more about taxes: Donating and taxes.
