My name is Riina Solman and charity is nothing new to me. Taking care of the less fortunate shows the level of caring our country has reached. By the less fortunate I’m not just referring to people in need, but also to pets, because they are unable to ask for our help. That is the reason that made me want to work with the Varjupaikade MTÜ NGO and be the guardian angel for a super friendly and nice dog from Jõgevamaa. One of the dog’s owners passed away and the other one was taken to an assisted living facility. Kirsika, the dog, has been waiting for a new home in the Virumaa shelter since December. There are a lot of dogs in Estonia that have never seen a veterinarian. For those dogs, every call of nature ends with another bunch of puppies. The harsh custom of sending them to ‘diving school’ has sadly not disappeared because it seems the cheapest way to get rid of an unwanted ‘inconvenience’. The reality is, though, that it’s a social problem to which there are actual solutions nowadays. The principle of the Varjupaikade MTÜ NGO is only to give away animals that have been micro chipped, vaccinated and neutered/spayed by a veterinarian, in order to avoid them from accidental reproducing. The only thing keeping Kirsika from going to a new home is the sterilization operation, which, for a fine 50kg dog lady like herself costs, along with the micro chip and other necessary procedures, 320€. This is a huge amount of money for the shelter, that’s why I ask you, dear friends, to contribute to the cause of providing a good and elegant dog with a happier life in a new home.
