According to Alzheimer Europe, there may have been around 22,942 people with dementia in Estonia in 2018. This number almost doubles every 20 years.
Although dementia is most common in older people, it is not a natural part of ageing. It is a gradual, morbid decline in mental abilities (e.g. memory, attention, logical reasoning, planning activities), resulting in a decline in a person’s welfare and ability to cope with everyday life. The disease can cause communication difficulties, which can make it difficult to get out of the house. As a person with dementia can no longer cope with everyday life as well as they used to, the quality of life of their loved ones is also affected.
Your donation will help to make the lives of people living with dementia and their loved ones more joyful and active. Living with Dementia uses donations to organise memory cafés, where people with dementia can safely participate in joint activities.
In the memory cafés carried out by Living with Dementia, people in whom the decline in mental ability is at an early stage can regularly communicate and participate safely in joint activities. Memory cafés have taken place throughout Estonia.
Donations help cover the costs of organising memory cafés, participation fees for people with dementia, if necessary (e.g. tickets to exhibitions), and fees for invited guests.
The main mission of Living with Dementia is to protect and support the interests of people with dementia and their loved ones so that no one is left alone with their concerns. Knowing that we have already been able to help at least one person is a step forward for us. We can do more together!
