The Children’s Foundation has many different areas of contribution, but children with rare diseases need the biggest support from donators. Their treatment is almost always highly expensive and is not covered by health insurance, as it is not cost effective enough.
With the help of our good donators the Children’s Foundation is covering the treatment costs of more than 50 children with rare diseases, reaching up to 2-3 million euros per year. We help to pay for expensive medicine, innovative gene therapy, daily care and aid products, various therapies, nutrition and other treatment-related costs.
In case of widespread diseases the purchase of medicines and aid products is state-funded. In case of rare diseases the need for creating a reserve fund has been recognised, but so far no action has followed. Today´s legislation does not enable cooperation between different organisations, companies and national health insurance system.
At the Children´s Foundation we are convinced that no child should be untreated due to lack of money, be it one in a million children, one child in two thousand or more. Children with rare diseases and their families must also be assured that the necessary treatment is always available to the child. Together we can provide these families with a sense of security!
