The KiVa programme has been implemented as a pilot project in twenty Estonian schools in the 2013/2014 academic year on the initiative of the Anti-Bullying Foundation. The programme includes prevention activities as well as models for resolving bullying cases, involving all relevant parties—the school staff, students and parents.

The effectiveness of the programme is measured twice a year with a survey carried out in schools. International practice indicates that this programme, developed by researchers from the University of Turku, has helped to reduce bullying and the drop-out rate significantly in schools. The impact study conducted together with the pilot programme demonstrates that as a result of the implementation of the KiVa programme, the bullying rates in KiVa schools dropped by 17,2%.

In 2015/2016 academic year the KiVa programme will continue to operate in existing KiVa schools and extend to a number of new shools, i.e altogether 31 schools will be implementing the program and 5 new schools will enter the preparation phase. The long-term goal of KiVa is for all Estonian schools to be free of bullying.

The cost of implementing the programme to the minimal necessary extent is 20 euros per student and we would like there to be at least 150 students who have benefitted from the project supported via the Donation Environment. The bullying rates have decreased in KiVa schools and they arethey are eager and ready to carry on implementing and working on keeping themselves free of bullying. It would be a good result for us if bullying decreased from the base level by 10% or more during the first year of implementation.

The Anti-Bullying Foundation was established at the end of 2012 and its mission is to help Estonian schools become free of bullying. The foundation was established by the Good Deed Foundation, the Estonian Association of School Psychologists, Unique School Development Centre, education researcher at the University of Tartu Kristiina Treial and social entrepreneurs Kristi Liiva and Rasmus Rask.

The organization is included on the list of income tax incentive non-profit organizations and the donors will get back the income tax paid from their donation and the donations made by companies are tax-free (Estonian Income Tax Act § 49). Read more about taxes: Donating and taxes.
