Estonian Blind Masseurs Association: “Help the visually impaired acquire the profession of a masseur and start working independently!”
How does your donation help?
The Estonian Blind Masseurs Association (EBMA) helps people who have lost their eyesight acquire the profession of a masseur and start working independently on the general labour market or at the EBMA Massage Centre.
In 2017, we are collecting donations for installing special lighting, which is appropriate for people with visual impairments, in the hallway in front of the massage rooms. Making the work environment of blind masseurs safer will cost 5,500 euros (including necessary electrical work).
The EBMA Training and Massage Centre, located in Tondi, enables visually impaired people from all over Estonia to come and learn the profession of a masseur, as well as offering in-service training for current blind masseurs. The centre employees 24 blind masseurs. Five new blind masseurs completed training in 2016 and most of them started work at the EBMA centre.
The EBMA, which was established in 1999 by 9 visually impaired masseurs, organises in-service massage training for its members, introduces and intermediates massage equipment, distributes professional information, offers opportunities for working at the EBMA Centre, etc.
