Whether directly or indirectly, the problems associated with hearing impairment affect us all.  In Estonia, every third person over the age of 65 has some degree of hearing loss. About 20% of the total population is considered to have problems with hearing and this percentage is growing steadily due to the aging of the population and listening to too loud music by young people.

One of the first signs of hearing loss is when the speech of others becomes difficult to understand. Unidentified hearing loss can lead to low spirits, depression and other mental health problems. Raised awareness of your hearing level helps prevent more serious problems.

In the summer of 2021, the Estonian Association of the Hard of Hearing People (EAHH) with the help of donors, launched a Hearing Bus which is equipped for performing hearing screenings. This makes it possible to provide primary hearing counselling in locations further away from major centres. The Hearing Bus is ready to come to your hometown or village, but additional support is needed to make the Hearing Bus soundproof and to develop the counselling area. Experience to date has shown that ambient noise can interfere with hearing screening and affect results. There is also a need to create a waiting and counselling area around the bus, which would provide shade from rain, wind or scorching sun. Thus advice and assistance could be provided for more people at the same time.

Your donation helps the Hearing Bus to:

  • get soundproof walls which would attenuate disturbing external noise while performing the hearing tests;
  • Reach your hometown or village (hearing bus insurance, fuel, volunteer involvement);
  • Provide information materials for the clients;
  • get an outdoor tent with walls and furnish an advisory area next to the bus

The councelling and hearings tests on the Hearing Bus are provided by trained primary level hearing councelors – volunteers. The hearing bus is also accessible for wheelchair users.

The main objective of the Estonian Association of Hard of Hearing People  (EAHH) is to provide assistance to hard of hearing people and raise their quality of life. EAHH wants to bring hearing counselling and assistance to all those in need across Estonia and to raise awareness of hearing care.

The organization is included in the list of non-profit organizations receiving income tax benefits. Read more about the taxes and donations:  Donating and taxes
