The mission of the Doktor Kloun NPO is to boost the recovery of hospitalised children by bringing them cheer and hope through a personalised clown performance.

Your donation helps us organise weekly visits of cheer by Clown Doctors throughout the year in the 6th Department of the Tallinn Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Clinic of the Tartu University Hospital, the Child Surgery and Oncology Department of the Maarjamõisa Hospital, and in the Narva Hospital.

A Clown Doctor does not merely provide entertainment, but strength. During their weekly visits, Clown Doctors establish close relationships with children who are hospitalised for a long time, as well as with their families and the medical staff, so that everyone is waiting for their next visit. Clown Doctors help reduce hospital stress by taking children to a world of imagination, tricks and playfulness, enabling to see the brighter and cheerful side of the hospital environment. Playing is one of the most powerful ways to overcome hopelessness and inject energy into an unfamiliar situation. Laughter has magic powers, reducing pain and releasing happiness hormones, strengthening the heart, relaxing muscles, boosting the immune system, alleviating stress, providing support in difficult situations, and creating connections between people. Laughter also helps the body to produce more leucocytes, which are essential for combating various diseases, incl. cancer. The work of Clown Doctors in Estonian children’s hospitals has shown that the special positive energy persists among children even for some time after their visit.

The Doctor Clown help hospitalized children laugh and cheer them up rather than just giving them gifts. However, soap bubbles and balloons are always brought along to the wards, reminding children of their happy meeting. With the donations made to the Doktor Kloun non-profit association, we can ensure that hospital clowns receive consistent training so that the Doctor Clown can play an ethically and playfully responsible role in dealing with sick and traumatised children. We can also get toys and essentials for donations.

The Clown Care charity organisations operate globally for more than 40 years, with hundreds of hospitals throughout the world having approved Clown Doctor programmes. Doktor Kloun NPO was founded in 2006. During the 16 years of operation, Clown Doctors have paid a visit to over 24,000 hospitalised children.

The organisation is included on the list of income tax incentive non-profit organizations. Read more about taxes here: Donations and taxes.

Despite covid restrictions, Clown Doctors safely continue their work

23.12.2020

Doctor Clown visited the children's hospital in September, but then coronavirus-related restrictions on visitors were reintroduced. We did not want to send video greetings, as these young patients already spend too much time in front of the screens. In spite of the circumstances, we found a way to bring some joy and comfort to the children in the hospital. The Clown Doctors wave to the children and joke with them under the windows of the Tallinn Children's Hospital. This approach has been very well received by the Hospital, and the Hospital’s Communications Manager has informed the various departments so that the children can reach the windows of their hospital rooms in time.

Doctor Clown has ignored bad weather and play spontaneously using toys such as kites, balloons, umbrellas, hula hoops, etc. These encounters under the windows of the Children's Hospital have been extremely beneficial for everyone including the children, their parents, medical staff, and for the Clown Doctors themselves.

The Clown Doctors are still in full swing and acting for the benefit of children in the context of the covid-19 pandemic. We want to brighten the day of every child in need of hospital treatment, lift their spirits and make them smile again.
