Estonian Refugee Council's mission is to stand for the rights and well-being of refugees in Estonia and abroad. For that purpose we provide support services to beneficiaries of international protection in Estonia, provide humanitarian aid outside of Estonia (currently in Ukraine and Turkey), and aim to be the most prominent competence center on forced migration and integration in Estonia.

Currently we support refugees coming to Estonia mainly through our support person service. It is a service built up on volunteer work and its goal is to help refugees become independent as soon as possible. The main methods for that are counselling and information provision, networking (bringing refugees together with other service providers) and finding opportunities for social integration.

In past 20 years, Estonia has given international protection to about 350 people. For a long time most of them came from ex-Soviet countries but since early 2016 the number of refugees from Middle Eastern crisis countries (Syria, Iraq, Yemen) has increased as well, in need of even more initial support.

With the increase in the number of refugees arriving to Estonia, we wish to increasingly complement the current individual service with relevant group activities: group counselling, trainings, social gatherings and club-like activities. Group activities could cover very different topics and needs, from financial counselling and women's clubs to language cafes and hobby groups. As much as possible, we wish to involve successfully integrated refugees in these activities, letting them be positive role models and share their experiences, also local people who are willing to help.

Donations will be used to start group activities in Tallinn and Tartu, and to help these activities be sustainable. For that we need to rent suitable rooms, renting them initially hourly for events we organize, but in the long term permanently. We also need one person in each city to keep such centres going by organizing regular events and sessions.

The organization is included on the list of income tax incentive non-profit organizations and the donors will get back the income tax paid from their donation and the donations made by companies are tax-free (Estonian Income Tax Act § 49). Read more about taxes: Donating and taxes.
