How does your donation help?

We all know someone who has fought with cancer. This serious illness has affected us, whether directly or indirectly.

Princess Dina Mired, President of the Union for International Cancer Control and a mother of a cancer survivor, has said that all aspects of the fight against cancer are important, but prevention and early detection are the cornerstones that help save hundreds and thousands of people in the world.

In Estonia, cancer is diagnosed in nearly 9,000 people each year and about half of them die because the disease has progressed too far by that time. We could prevent 30% or 40% of those cases, or at least reduce the risk, by opting for a healthier lifestyle. We can treat about 1/3 of all cancer types if they are detected early.

In the last 5 years, the Estonian Cancer Society's mobile diagnostic units for prostate and skin cancer have helped many people through early detection to prevent cancer deaths.

We have come to the conclusion that we are most effective by bringing our services close to where people live: especially in small towns and rural areas where there are no specialists.

In order to improve the operation of our mobile diagnostic units, we are undertaking a single unit reconstruction, which will make both cabinets more convenient to transport, set up and use.

Your donation will help speed up the reconstruction of the two mobile diagnostic units in order to bring our cancer diagnostic services closer to the homes of Estonians'. Our plans are to have our prostate and skin cancer diagnostic services operational this fall in order to detect cancer at the earliest possible stage and save lives.
