The current emergency situation has brought on new challenges for all of us. Unemployment numbers increase with each day and bankruptcies of companies have began to affect the daily lives of large families. The Estonian Association of Large Families has more than 1,800 member families, raising over 8,500 kids. Among these families, families with 4 children make up about 65%, families with 5 children make up about 25% and families with six or more children make up about 10%.

The rapidly changing circumstances require adjustments to lifestyle and sets higher demands on parents, as well as economic pressure. Under normal conditions, school-age children are offered lunch at school with support from the state and local government; whereas, in an emergency situation, providing a hot meal for lunch is the parents’ task. This may lead to a situation where a family’s income is decreasing, while their expenses on food are increasing.

Healthy and balanced eating is vital to ensure that children stay in good spirits and motivated for schoolwork. Children are also under increased mental strain as they need to get used to the new circumstances, so it is especially important to pay attention to what they’re eating.

We encourage you to donate so that we can support families where the income of a parent or parents has been reduced, thereby affecting how the entire family is coping with the current situation.

Our aim is to collect 5,000 so that 250 children of families in economic difficulties could have access to diverse and healthy food despite the current crisis. Food will be delivered to those in need in cooperation with various companies.

According to the Estonian Institute of Economic Research, the weekly basket of food for a family of four costs €77.80, which means that the average food basket costs €20 per person costs.

The Estonian Association of Large Families advocates for large families and promotes the idea of having many children as a generally accepted social value in Estonia. Our network includes 19 organizations.

The organization is included on the list of income tax incentive non-profit organizations. More information on relevant taxation can be found here: Donating and taxes.
