In 2019, 4,119 domestic violence crimes were registered in Estonia. That is a 14% increase from 2018. Every other violent crime in Estonia is a domestic violence crime. 85% of persons committing these crimes were men and 81% of the victims were women. Past statistics show that the number of domestic crime increase during holidays and other times when people spend a lot of time at home.

The primary goal of mothers who have broken free of a cycle of domestic violence is to find a job and a home for their child. People who do not have a lot will have to take on rent obligations and make do in a difficult financial situation. A lot of mothers are at risk of losing their jobs due to the current crisis, which can have a debilitating effect on their ability to build a new life.

The aim of this project is to ensure that the basic needs of women and children (who have left domestic violence settings are met. Your donations are used to buy food or pay the utility bills (as online learning cannot take place if a family has their electricity cut off) of families in economic difficulties.

As a result of the project, we want families in extremely difficult financial situations to have the knowledge that they are noticed and the support that they need to overcome their problems. Children should not feel socially excluded nor worry about how their most basic needs will be met or how to help their mothers.

Help is provided pursuant to a needs-based approach; mothers and children in the most critical situations receive aid first and on equal bases.

The non-profit association Life Free of Violence (MTÜ Vägivallavaba Elu Kaitseks) is an umbrella organisation for seven associations that focus on ensuring violence-free life, providing counselling, organising training and awareness raising activities.
